CAPS Phase 1 Requirements

C.A.P.S.: Phase One Course Requirements

    1. Complete the Hermeneutics Course (Principles of Biblical Interpretation)

    Required reading: Getting the Message, Daniel M. Doriani

  • a 12 month course (meeting monthly)

    or

  • a 3 month course (meeting weekly)

    1. Complete the Homiletics Course (The Art of Preaching)
Required reading: Preparing Expository Sermons by Ramesh Richard and Between Two Worlds by John Stott
  • a 12 month course (meeting monthly)

    or

  • a 3 month course (meeting weekly)

    1. Write 4 Essays (each three thousand or more words)
      1. The Inspiration and Authority of Scripture
      1. The Trinity (Majoring on the Deity of Christ)
      2. The Death of Christ (Covering subjects like Redemption, Reconciliation, Propitiation and Substitution)
      3. Salvation: a Balance of Faith & Works (Required reading: The Gospel According to Jesus, John MacArthur)

    1. Complete Bible Survey Course (OT & NT)

    1. Read The Integrity Crisis by Warren W. Wiersbe

    1. Preach a minimum of six (6) sermons in class.

CAPS Phase 1 training has been conducted in Kingsport, Tennessee, and Happy, Kentucky in the last couple of years. Currently, CAPS Phase 1 classes are meeting on a monthly basis in Bristol, Virginia. A new six-month course is in progress in Kermit, West Virginia, as of April 2008. CAPS is an extension of Bancroft Gospel Ministry.
